Hi,

Am very new to this and am very confused on how to get started. So any help would be greatful

I am fairly healthy, train alot and am very active. Am not overweight but I am not small either.

I have been snoring since I can remember, but lately it has gotten worst for some unknown reason.(according to my wife)

So would like to know where to go in SYDNEY NSW to get started on a treatment plan of some sort.

Hi ENUF
You need a referral letter from your GP for a sleep study at one of local sleep clinic/Hosp or one of the major Hospitals
Call them directly and make the first appointment and take it from there [some are more busy than others]
Good luck

RPA Hospital
Sleep Health & Respiratory Support Clinic

St Vncents Hospital

Hi ENUF,

For what it's worth I would not rely on your GP being your primary Health Care Provider for this issue, to be blunt GP's are a "Jack of all Trades" and unless your lucky enough to get one who specialises in Sleep Disorders (unlikely) then you could be up for a lot of frustration and wasted money.

I would get your GP to refer you to a "Sleep Specialist" who may (most likely) send you for a Sleep Study, but they may also send you to see an ENT to determine the cause (even ask them to see one). It really depends on what you tell them about the issue and how they go about determining the cause and best solution.

You said you snore, but you didn't mention if it affects "you" in any way.

If you go the GP/Sleep Study route then it is most likely that your GP will recommend a CPAP/APAP machine, if you search the internet you will find many stories of people buying a machine (at great expense) and giving up on it.

My biggest piece of advice is for you to go into this with your "Eyes Wide Open", read up on what causes snoring, do the tests on sleep apnea and know the subject as well as you can before forking out too much cash.

If you see an ENT and they suggest surgery then think it through well, once they chop off bit's they can't put them back, there are many stories of surgery not fixing the problem. Also, do not buy a machine right away, rent one (or two) to see how you go and lastly I found the Mask to be the most important part of my treatment, don't settle for a Mask unless it suits you well!

Be informed and remember "YOU" are your Primary Health Care Provider!!!

Cheers and Good Luck
John
